Pewter Shop Pewter Shop Area Activities:
Also Featuring “The Rise of the Ironclads" The remarkable story of how the North and the South used their resources to build navies will be told by a special exhibition presented by United States Naval Landing Party (USNLP). USNLP is a member unit of the Navy & Marine Living History Association. The group portrays the activities of a landing party of Union sailors and Marines during the Civil War. Our 2010 Pewter Shop experience will include displays of period naval weapons and tools, as well as demonstrations of nautical music. A cooking exhibition and howitzer firings will be held in the encampment area. Lieutenant Chuck Veit, USNLP will lead visitor driven discussions ranging from questions about daily life aboard ship to the great sea battles that were fought along 3500 miles of coastal waters. Learn about the lesser-known deeds of the Yankee “Jack Tars” whose war included every navigable creek in Dixie. The Navy’s Civil War, at sea and on the land, was very different from that of the infantry soldier and is not well known today – especially regarding the story of one of the Navy’s top secret weapons. Join us at the Pewter Shop and learn about the US Navy’s, submarine, the Alligator. For more information visit www.usnlp.org. See also: Civil War Naval Traditions |
